All the schools are different.You would need to always check every year to make sure you are on target as these change year to year. In general, you need as close to a 4.0 as you can get, and hours spent with a veterinarian in various capacities of the field is needed. Luckily, quite a few prerequisites are similar between pre-vet and pre-med (I think), so you can probably take more time to get more experience and decide. Then class usually starts back at 1:10 and we might have one or two classes getting done at 2 or 3. On Thursdays, we get done at 2, but some people have a 2 hour lab or tutorial, others have a break, then we have a class from 4-5. Thursdays are usually the only 9-5 days. I am a post-bacc pre-vet student. I have about 1.5 more years to gain experience before I apply. I grew up showing horses around the country and have gained a little over 500 hours shadowing equine vets in the past 8 months. I also have about 150 hours volunteering in animal rescues and fostering sick dogs.Undergraduates must have completed at least 2 years of a 4 year pre-veterinary medicine or some other biomedical science program. Graduates must have completed no more than 1 year of study in veterinary medicine. Students must agree to work for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service during school breaks.
